Welcome to Room 29!
My name is Diana Portillo. This is my third year at Darby and boy do I plan to make it a great one! I have a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subject Credential. I've have had the wonderful opportunity to work with students from all types of backgrounds. I am a compassionate person whose primary goal is to make her students feel important. All my experiences have molded me into the teacher I am today. Nonetheless, I will always expect the best from my students. Students will always know what is expected of them and how to achieve it. My students will not only enhance their learning skills, but grow from what they already know.
My loves include my husband of four years, our adorable bulldog, my family and friends. It is always a party when we are together. I also enjoy everything from going to the beach to relaxing at home. I love arts and crafts and do-it-yourself projects.
Academic Expectations:
First and foremost, our goal as a class is to meet and exceed all required standards in all subjects- Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science. We learn as a team and carry on as a team. There will be a variety of teaching styles implemented in my classroom such as collaborative learning, modeling, student-centric learning, hands-on learning and much more. Given that every student learns differently, these teaching styles will help fit the need of every student.

My ultimate goal is for every student to reach success.
- We will learn like nothing is holding us back.
- We will dance like nobody's watching.
- We will sing like nobody is hearing.
- And we will reach our greatest potential like there aren't any hurdles in our way BECAUSE we can do it!
Homework will be assigned Monday-Thursday with the occasional weekend project. It is imperative students complete their homework as it enhances the skills learned that day/week. I will directly contact parents when homework is not turned in/complete. In addition, homework serves as a way for me to monitor understanding of a subject. Students are also expected to read at least 30 minutes a day. There will be book reports assigned throughout the year.
Students are expected to be outstanding citizens at all times. They are to treat everyone with respect and follow all school rules. It is going to be a fun-filled academic year! I look forward to working with you and your child!
