Ms. Lisa Hobi » Welcome to Room 1!

Welcome to Room 1!

Education:

My name is Lisa Hobi, and I am excited to be your child's teacher this year. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential, and a Master's degree in Curriculum Design and Instruction. I am also trained in gifted education. In addition to teaching at Darby, I have also previously taught reading comprehension and vocabulary skills at a local community college.

Personal Background:

I have the most wonderful family, including a husband of more than 20 years, as well two boys. When I’m not in the classroom, my family and I enjoy traveling, biking, hiking, boating, and many other sports including soccer, swimming, and golf. I have completed three Los Angeles Marathons, including one in the pouring rain. I love to read, scrapbook, and visit local museums and attractions with my family and friends.

Academic and Behavioral Expectations:

All students are scholars in our room. My teaching style embraces whole brain learning, which appeals to all learning styles. In our classroom, you will often see students working collaboratively, as well as with chants and songs, sign language and hand gestures, as well as peer teaching. Students will achieve success in Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, and Science by continuing to develop their creativity through collaboration and an ability to express their ideas without reservation. Art, Music, Dance, Health, Physical Education, and Theatre Arts will be incorporated across our curriculum, with opportunities for students to express themselves as unique individuals in each of these areas. Since today’s kindergartners are 21st-century learners, they will be provided with many opportunities to utilize technology in our classroom and out of our classroom to supplement their learning and understanding. Students will be taught that with struggle and perseverance, anything is possible!

Homework:

Homework packets will be given on a weekly basis. Homework is a review of important skills, and also helps establish good work habits and responsibility even at a young age. Homework will be checked for completion only. Parents are encouraged to monitor their child’s homework before it is handed in. A weekly newsletter will accompany each week’s packet. Daily homework will also include a reading log. Students also will work on a variety of family projects throughout the year that will require more involved parental assistance. Advance notice for these assignments will always be given.

All students are expected to have appropriate behavior both in the classroom and on the yard. The classroom is a workplace, and my discipline plan encourages scholarliness and a positive reward system while supporting the school-wide Code of Conduct Discipline plan. Student safety, respect, and responsibility for ourselves and our friends is always our first goal.

I look forward to our academic journey together this school year!
